Zoology Department



The Department of biology has been functioning since 1962 with pre university course.MissN.Usha,Miss.R.Ratna and MrsG.Saroja were the members of Zoology and Botany respectively . After five years of its emergence the Department of Zoology was established on July 1967.

Mere buildings does not make an institution that too an educational one. It is always persons with the right mentality with dedication and foresight and occupy offices .Mrs.Vimala Nagasamy , right person in her tenure served as the head and played a pivotal role.

The faculty members Mrs.A.MarinaPrema Bai, Miss G.JeanMagdalina and MrsN.Vasantha extended ,dedicated and untiring service to the college and department.Later the role of Mrs.Mayakkal and MrsC.Suriyaprabha is note worthy in the annual of the history of the Department.

Miss M.Bhavani and MrsS.Pappa were appointed as Lecturer in 1971 &1973 respectively.

Miss.N.Bhavani became the Head in 1975 and set the department in the progressive path. She is a perfectionalist who executes responsibilities with determination and deep conviction. She possess loving approachable personality.

Mrs .S.Pappa became the Head in 2007 and extended untiring service to the Department and college. She is an able administrator and has proved her excellence in many places. MrsR.M.Bhanumathi,a kind hearted dedicated and sincere person, rendered her service from 1975 onwards. Mrs.S.Pappa and Mrs .RM.Bhanumathi were the motivating force and source of inspiration in carrying out all our activities.

In the year 1986 Dr.Mrs.N.Chenthilnayaki was appointed as Lecturer.

Dr.Mrs. N.Chenthilnayaki became the Head in 2009 and set the department in the progressive path. She is a perfectionist who executes responsibilities with determination and deep conviction .She is a right person in her tenure and played a vital role.

Dr.Mrs.R.Ananthaselvi was appointed in 2000 as Lecturer. Dr.Mrs.R.Ananthaselvi became the head in 2014 and still in service who set the department in the progressive path. She motivates and extends her care and love to all the person. She is a force and source of inspiration in carrying out all our activities also encourages students to participate the other colleges activity.

Mrs. R.Bhuvaneswari, Dr. Mrs. H.Faritha begam,were appointed in February 2014.Dr.Mrs.V.Pradeepa was appointed in June 2015.In the year August 2018 Dr.Mrs.K.Vanitha was appointed. The department functions in the ground floor with spacious class rooms,laboratory,library cum reading hall and museum and equipped laboratory.Our students bring laurels to the department by securing university ranks every year and participating in all the activities including animal preservation training programme, community development program and paper presentation in other institution .Faculty members have completed UGC Research projects and TNSCST sponsored creating awareness programme for Rural farmers and SHG members and students have been r presenting and publishing paper in International and National journals with high impact factor. Another credit of the department is Mrs .Dr.R.Ananthaselvi holding the prestigious NCC officer .

Museum

The museum of the department is well furnished with valuable and rare collection of specimen. Stuffed and preserved species and also charts related to Invertebrata, Chordata,Embryology,Cytology,Genetics and Ecology were showcased in an attractive manner.The stuffed and cured birds were also enhancing and fascinating the museum.

Library:

Department library contains more than 300 valuable books, journals, year wise question bank of each subject. Students could utilize latest books journals. Placement and progression of the students

Nearly 75% of the students pursue post graduation and showed their interest in studying Biotechnology, Microbiology and Immunology. Some of them turn their way to study Diploma courses in PGDCA, Lab technician , Vermiculture, Sericulture and Aquaculture. So that they can act as a job providing personality rather than job seeking member. After higher studies few of them were employed in private school, colleges and also in Government and Aided schools and colleges. With an idea of entering into an renowned institution and companies some of them gone abroad for higher studies.

Skill Development of students

In addition to Regular curriculum including Biotechnology,Microbiology,Immunology,Biochemistry,Environmental biology, Poultry science &Statistical techniques.Students were given a chance to gain experience on skill development studies such as communicative English, Effective employability skills, Competitive Examination skills, Emergency and medical lab skills, Entrepreneurial development skill, Heritage and tourism promotion skill, fruits and vegetables preservation skills and Conference equipment handling skills.

The talents are enhanced and exhibited by allowing them to participate in drawing, painting, Tailoring, Handicraft, Key board, Beautician& Photography courses. The skill is also showcased in Quiz competition, Elocution, Essay writing, debates and seminars.

An effective tutorial system has been adopted with the cooperation of the students. It gives counseling, coaching the weak students and to encourage their participation in social activities. Besides the teachers with their own interest involved in the day to day problems of learners, clarified and rectified the matters in an acceptable manner.

Our staff always show interest in students academic development and they take personal care to encourage and motivate the students by offering special prizes on various occasion especially on the college day celebration.

The course B.Sc Zoology offers immense scope in the courses like Biotechnology, Microbiology and Immunology. These courses attract the scope to the upcoming courses like vermiculture, sericulture and Aquaculture.

The eligibility for admission is a pass in HSC with Biology/Zoology as one of the Major subjects in part III .

NATIONAL SEMINAR

Two day National Seminar on "Wild Life Conservation and Management Strategies" was organised by our zoology department on 4.10.2018 and 5.10.2018. The national seminar was felicitated by Retd. Principal and the Chief executive officer MrsS.Pappamanikam by lamp lighting programme.On the first day 04.10.2018 Dr.S.RAJAMOHAN,DeanAlagappauniversity,Karaikudi was the chief guest .He delivered the inaugural address and he explained the importance of wild animals and conservation.

In the first day the resource person Dr.Ramachandran Retd. Professor of Botany gave a special talk on ethanobotany and tribals.Dr.PreethamElumalai Assistant professor of biochemistry, Kerala University,Panangad, Kochin, Kerala gave a talk on “Marine Biodiversity Concern and Stategic”.

In the afternoon session Dr.M.MANIVANNAN MBBS,MD,ANNAI SRIPARVATHI TRUST,KARAIKUDI was the resource person .He gave a special lecture on importance of wild animals and forest.

On the second day 05.10.2018 Dr.B.A.DANIEL Senior scientist (entomology)zoo outreach organization ,India JUCN, gave a special talk on "ASSESSMENT TOOLS FOR SPECIES CONSERVATION" .Dr.Pugazhenthi, Associate professor Department of Zoology gave a special talk on "GENETIC DIVERSITY IN THE PRESENT AND

FUTURE PERSPECTIVE".

Dr.B.VASEEKARANProfessor and Head Department of Animal Health and Management AlagappaUniversity Karaikudi gave a special lecture on “Biodiversity of Crustaceans and Immune Related Genes in Invertebrates . Around 250 students and research scholars were participated in the seminar and they were benefited.We received 50 research articles from the scholars for this seminar.

WORLD ANIMAL DAY CELEBRATION AND ZOOLOGY EXHIBITION

Every year october 4th is marked and observed as world animal day. Tomark the world animal day our Department of Zoology organized and celebrated two day programme on ‘World Animal Day’ celebration and Zoology Exhibition on 4.10.16.and 5.10.16.

Dr.GV. Gopinath, Assistant professor of Zoology, Vice-Principal of ArumugampillaiSeethaiammalCollege,Thiruppathur, Honorary Wild Life Warden by forest department Government of Tamil Nadu, Advisory committee member of Vettangudi bird sanctuary, Forest department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu was the Chief Guest. He delivered Inaugural address and enlightened about the importance of animals and innovations.

Our College Secretary Mr.O.A.Anantha PadmanapanChettiyar and Madam Secretary Mrs.VishalakshiAnantha Padmanapan felicitated the opening ceremony of zoology exhibition.

Principal Dr.S.Ramuthai, gave the presidential address.Retired Principal and todays chief executive officer Mrs.S.PappaManickam and retired Vice principal Dr.N.Chenthilnayaki attended and gave special talk about zoology exhibition. Special guest Mr.Raman, Forester(Retd.) spoke about the importance of wild animals.

Dr. D.Karunakaran, Deputy Director,AnimalHusbandary, Sivagangai, gave the valedictory address, He gave valuable information about the domestic animals, uses provided by the government to the rural people. The exhibition was a very good platform for our students. All the students of our department express their skills and talents through their models, live show case, many domestic and pet animals like piglets, chicklets etc, Staff and students from various departments were eagerly and interestingly visited the exhibition.

The students from SeethaiAchi School, Pallathur, ArunachalamCettiyar School, RMM High School in Pallathur visited the zoology exhibition and asked questions and clarified their doubts. The school students were much benefitted by the exhibition.

VILLAGE ADOPTION PROGRAMME

In order to create link between college and society, our college inculcate social values and responsibilities to the students by imparting extension activities in the neighbouring village for the holistic development of the society.

As a part of the extension activity Zoology department adopted Kothari village near Pallathur and render various activities for the betterment of village, by conducting awareness programme on health and hygiene ,uplifting the economic status of the village people by giving hands on training to Self Help Group members, giving free coaching on basic English and Science to the school children and encourage the village people to plant more number of tree saplings.

MUSEUM

Museum offers Thousands of extensive collections of fascinating insight of scientifically ,biologically important zoological specimen materials are displayed and documented. Collections include invertebrates, fluid preserved specimens and models vertebrates ,fossils,birds,mollusc, insects, etc., And also various collections of chart-boards, chart-papers, stuffed materials, solid mould model materialsof eye, ear, heart, kidney etc.,

3rd memorial day was observed on 27th July 2018 to mark the respect and pay homage to the great personality of our Indian history Dr. A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM. Students and staff members planted tree saplings in our college campus and near by school, Seethaiachi school and solaiandavar school.

Zoology Association Inaugural function was held on 24.08.2018 Dr . P.Kumar Assistant professor Dept. of Animal health and management, Karaikudi was the chief guest. He delivered the speech on the animal cell cultures technology. He emphasized on various techniques followed in propagation of cell line culture and applications in different fields like cancer research, gene therapy etc. The student interacted with the Chief Guest and were much benefited.



As a part of extension activity II B.sc Zoology student were taken to kundrakudi on 12.10.2018 with two staff members. Students interacted with the people and obtained data regarding population distribution and socio economic status of the people.

Fresher’s day was celebrated on 16.08.2018 in the department III & II year student gave warm welcome to the 1st year student. This event felicitate the new comers to mingle with the department.

As a part V semester, Heritage and Tourism promotion skills, III year Zoology students and 2 staff members Mrs.R.Bhuvaneshwari and Dr.V.Pradeepa went to pillayarpatti on 12.10.2018 students visited the beautiful stone carving temple of Karpagavinayagar and the student were much benefited by this trip. On 12.10.2018 III B.sc Zoology students with one staff member Dr. H.FARITHABEGAM went to KVK Kundrakudi for getting a special training programme on Entrepreneurial development skill.

Every year world food day is celebrated on 16th October in honour of the date of founding of food and agriculture organization of the united nations in 1945. Various events promote worldwide awareness to ensure food security, safety and nutrition’s diets for all.

On 16.10.2018 the food safety and advisory committee conducted on awareness programme in our college. Dr.Jegatheeschandrabose MBBS was the chief guest he explained the various hazards of food additive& preservatives. The food safety officers from sivagangai (dis) gave many demonstration to the students to distinguish the ISI brand with non- branded local products. The students & staff members were more benefited.

PTA meet was conducted by our department on 17.08.2018. The main purpose of this meeting is to build a strong working , relationship among parents, teachers & institution., Academic performance of the students and social , emotional & behavioral topics were discussed in the meeting.





World students day was celebrated on 15th October every year across the world to commemorate the birth anniversary of great Indian scientists & former president Dr.A.P.J. ABDUL KALAM, a special meeting was arranged at the department Dr.SENDURKUMARAN Prof and Head Tamilnadu veterinary and animal sciences university KVK kundrakkudi, gave a vivid talk on journey of kalams life.

15th October is celebrated as National Women Farmer’s Day and also gave a training programme to Kothari village people in developing entrepreneurial skill. Dr.KUMARAVEL,scientist KVK , kundrakkudi gave a special talk on poultry farming. The village people interacted with the resource person and learn many things .

Every year 21st October is observed as police commemoration day. CISF of Amaravathipudhur celebrate police commoration on 17th October 2018 in our college deputy commandant Mr.Saxena and Mr.Ramesh , senior police officers were participated and gave a special talk on Brave personality of police force who died in Indian frontier war. He shared the sacrificing patriotism of our Indian jawan. At the end of the programme they gave 200 trees saplings to our college and some of the saplings were planted on that same day in our campus.

As the part of extension activity second B.SC zoology students visited kotthari for cleaning on 12.12.2019.

On 2.1.2019 new year eve was celebrated in a grant manner. An awareness programme on pollution was given to kotthari village people by our zoology students on 10.1.2019. College pongal day was celebrated by the students of our department they enjoyed and celebrated the integrated samathuvapongal.

On behalf of Zoology Association a special meeting was organized on 14.2.2019 B.K.ARUNADEVI from BhramakuamarRajayoga meditation centrekaraikudi gave a special lecture on ''Leadership as spirutualparadism".Her speech motivated the students she also gave the training on meditation and emphasized the students about the involvement in meditation.




On giving importance towards traditional food an expo was conducted on 19.2.2019 by our department. The students of our department displayed various traditional food items.







A Quiz programme was conducted by our depatment on 26.2.2019. All the studends from III , II and I year students actively participated in the Quiz programe. On 28.2.2019 All the III year students were taken to science exhibition at AMM Hospital.Various medical, pathalogical,things were displayed and the students were much more benefied.

A silent prayer was observed on 28.2.2019 for the soliders who lost their lifes in Pulwama attack.



On 7.3.2019 Mr.MuthusamyRtd(HM) Pappanadu he gave a training to our students in communication English in a early manner. The students were easily understand and more benefitted




International women's day was celebrated by our department on 8.3.2019.

On11.3.2019 the thiruppathur school students were visited our zoology lab and museum. Our students explained various specimens displayed in our department and school students were benefied.




All III year students with two staff members visited biotechnology lab at science campus Alagappa university karaikudi.

On 12.3.2019 all III year students with two staff members Dr.R.Ananthaselvi and Mrs.R.Bhuvaneswari went for lab visit at Alagappa University ,Science campus Karaikudi. In that lab various instruments,apparatus, like centrifuge,PCR,electrophoresis, incubator etc. were displayed.The students were more benefited.

An alumini meet was conducted in our zoology department on 23.3.2019.The outgone students were enthustically participated and shared their experience.



Three day training programme on mushroom cultivation and palm tree food products was contucted by dry land agricultural research station chettinad on 28.3.2019.Our department students with two staff members Dr.H.Farithabegam and Dr.V.Pradeepa were actively participated in that programme and they were benefited. on 3.4.2019 fairwell day was celebrated in our department. All II and I year students of our department gave send off party to the III year students and III year students gave and shared their beautiful experience during their course. A rally was arranged on 5.4.2019 for election awareness. our department studends participated in the rally.

2017-2018 The inaugural function of both Golden Jubilee year celebrations and Zoology Association was held on 23.08.2017. Mr.JanagiRaman ,AssoProffessor [Rtd] of zoology ,SreeSevuganAnnamalai College ,Devakottai. Spoke on the topic ‘You-Can-Career Guidence’. His inaugural address was very much interesting and inspiring. Mrs.PappaManickam ,Chief Administrative Officer, Former Principal, offered felicitations the function.

To honour our Bharat Ratna, Missile man, Former President Dr.APJ . Abdul kalam’smemorial day was observed on 27.07.2017 in school children from pallathur were invited for various competitions like oratorical, essay, kavithai and drawing on relevant topics. School children from Seethai Achi Middle School, RMM Girls High School, Solaiandavar School, ArunachalamChettiyar Higher Secondary School were very interestingly participated nearly 45 Students were witness the programme.



Dr.G.Meenakshi, Asso, Prof and Head [Rtd] Dept of Chemistry ,felicitated Dr.APJAbdulkalam's memorial day and distributed the prizes to all the school children. The school headmaster, teachers of all schools rendered their support in conducting the competition .



One day Pranic healing camp was conducted on 28.7.2017.

Bharat RatnaDr.APJ. Abdul kalam’s birth anniversary was celebrated on 16.10.17 Dr. Geetha Assistant prof of Tamil , Ramasamy Tamil college, Illupakkudi was the Chief Guest spoke on the topic “KANAVU NAYAKAN KALAM”. The chief guest spoke on the early life education career and presidential achievement of Kalam and gave many ideas to achieve Kalams dreams 2020.The meeting was concluded with certificates and prize distribution to the school students of students were much enlightened by her valuable speech.

Sister Arunadevi from Brahmakumari Raja Yoga center, Karaikudi on 26.02.2018.spoke on the topic “STAY STRONG NEVER GIVE UP” and gave a practical training on meditation. Students were enlightened by her inspiring speech. Mr.ArulBakiyaraj, Manager HR and marketing trainer on communicative English and soft skills, Kalvi Higher Education and Research Institute, karaikudi invited for a specian talk on the title “PATH WAYS TO INDIVIDUALITY"(SOFT SKILLS & COMMUNICATIVE ENGLISH”) on 27.2.2018. His talk was informative and interesting. He stressed on the importance of communicative English. SelviRevathi, trainer ( our alumnae) gave a vivid account on soft skills.

Two staff members Dr.R.Ananthaselvi and Dr.H.FarithaBegam with ten students attended International seminar on ‘Recent research trends in Biosciences’ on 21.7.2016 and 22.7.16 at Idhaya College for Women,Sarugani, Sivagangai Dist. In that R.Elakkiya of III B.Sc., presented a paper and won III prize.

Five students and one staffmemberDr.V.Pradeepa and one Lab Assistant Mrs.S.Mariammal attended four days Animal Preservation Training Programme at Government Museum, Sivagangai.

Zoology Association Inaugural function was held on 11.8.16. Dr.S.Sendurkumaran, Professor and Head, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Science University, KrishiVigyan Kendra, Kundrakudi. He delivered a special talk on ‘Science and Innovation’, he explained recent trends in science and technology, also explained discoveries inventions and innovations,the students were much benefitted by his valuable speech.



Parent Teachers Association Meet was held on 12.8.16., after the meeting we arranged an awarenessprogramme to the parents about the importance of millets and organic farming, the chief guests were Dr.Tamilselvi Assistant Professor Department of Home Science and Dr.Sasikala Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Dryland Agriculture Research Station, Chettinad.



Village adoption is a rural development programme broadly focusing upon the development of the village which includes social development, cultural development and spread motivation among the people social mobilization of the villagecommunity.

Our department adopted a village, Kotthari near by our college on 24.9.16, in the presence of our principal Dr.S.Ramuthai, Retired principal and Chief Executive Officer Mrs. PappaManickam, Vice Principal Dr.Thirumamagal, N.C.C Officer and Zoology department HOD Dr.R.Ananthaselvi, other faculty members, Village Trustee, President and other office members of the village were witnessed the programme.



Village adoption is an uniqueprogramme.The aim is to help the society and the people. It is a symbiotic process leading to exchange of knowledge. While villagers gain scientific and technical knowledge through students. Students gain general awareness of village life and facilitate the process of under privileged sections of our population with the main stream.



In the mark of village adoption programme nearly hundred plants were planted by the Department students.

Under the scheme of extension work S.Meenal ,R.Elakkiya and M.Sivagami of III B.Sc., Zoology taught basic English and demonstrated the experiments to the school children. The school children and teachers appreciated volunteer service rendered by the students.

To create awareness on Integrated Farming system, B.Sc (Zoology) students with three staff members, Dr.R.Ananthaselvi, Mrs.R.Bhuvaneswari and Dr.V.Pradeepa were attended training programme at KVK,Kundrakudi on 26.9.16. One day field visit was arranged on 27.9.16. Students were taken to Manora, Mangroove forest, Muthupet, zoological park at Vedharaniyam, Velankanni, the students were much benefitted and enjoyed the trip. Department of zoology organized and celebrated two day programme on ‘World Animal Day’ celebration and Zoology Exhibition on 4.10.16.and 5.10.16.

One day awareness programme on rural energy utilization on 7.1.16. at our college. Our department jointly organized with centre of excellence in Dry farming, Dryland Agricultural Research Station,Chettinad, Sivagangai and TN Agricultural University, Coimbatore. The resource Dr.Pugalendhi was the chief guest, all science departments Botany, Zoology and Chemistry were much benefitted.



On 15.12.16. National Level Workshop on Gas Chromatography conducted by the department of Microbiology, Alagappa University, Karaikudi. Two staff members Mrs.R.Bhuvaneswari and Dr.H.Farithabegam were attended the workshop.

On 10.1.17. II B.Sc., Zoology students went to SolaiandavarKovil to extend their service in cleaning around the temple and visited Old homage at kotthari

On 12.1.17.college pongal day was celebrated,the students of our department enjoyed and celebrated the integrated samatthuvapongal in a grand manner.



On behalf of zoology association a special meeting was organized on 13.2.17. BK.ArunadeviBrahmakumari, Rajayoga meditation centreKaraikudi gave a special lecture on ‘God’s Wisdom for World’s Transformation’ Her speech motivated the students to have a strong will power, positive thinking etc,. She emphasized that all are souls and childrens of God. She also gave a practical training and meditation, students were enlightened by her speech.

On 15.2.17.all III year B.Sc students with one staff member Mrs.R.Bhuvaneswari were attended Career Advancement Programme KIT & KIM Technical campus, Managiri. In that programmeDr.Selvam emphasized values of higher education and students were much benefitted. Our student R.Elakkiya interacted with the resource person and got appreciation.

On 15.2.17. I year and II year students with two staff members Dr.H.Farithabegam and Dr.V.Pradeepa attended the training programme on importance and various uses of Palmyran palm tubers and kavunirice.

Fresher’s Day:

To create healthy environment among the students the fresher’s day was arranged on 30.07.2015. The Members of the staff II and III year students enlightened the I Year students by their encouraging talk and activities.

Department Election:

Election of the department was held on 31.07.2015. The members were unanimously elected. Secretary S.Nachimuthu Zoology. Joint Secretary M. Muthammal II B.Sc., Zoology, Committee members S.Solaiachi and M. Shanmugapriya of I B.Sc.,Zoology.

Inaugural function:

The inaugural function of Zoology Association was held on 11.09.2015. Dr. Mrs. IndralekhaMuthuswamy obstetrician and Gynecologist was the Chief Guest, she delivered a special talk “Igniting the young Mind’’ Students were much benefited by her valuable speech.



Staffs and students attended the seminar/workshop/conferences:

National seminar was conducted by Mother Therasa College Puduthukkottai on 15.09.2015 two staff members ( Dr.R.Ananthaselvi ( H.O.D ) and Dr. H.FarithaBegam presented the paper on ‘ Abdul kalamYennumArputhuSakthi’ and she won the first prize.

Three staff members Dr.R.Ananthaselvi (H.O.D), Mrs. R.Bhuvaneswari and Dr.H.FarithaBegam attended the National conference on “Intellectual Property Rights in Biodiversity and Biotechnology’’ in AVVM Sri Pushpam College on 16.09.2015. Mrs. R. Bhuvaneswari presented the paper on ‘ Antimicrobial activity of Actinomyces isolated from Thiruvaiyaru station , Thanjavur D.T and Mrs. Dr. H. FarithaBegam presented the papers on ‘ Biodiversity and fresh water zooplankton community and Phusico- Chemical parameters of pond Erode D.T., Tamilnadu . India.’

Two staff members with one I year student attended the International conference on The vision of Kalam 2020 conducted by Dr .Zakir Husain college, Ilayangudi on 15.10.2015.Dr.R.Ananthaselvi,Asso Prof& Head Dept of Zoology presented a paper on Dr.A.P.J. Abdul kalam’s two pillars –Science &Youth and Dr.H.Farithabegam, Asst Prof Presented paper on India 2020-Kanavu NayaganKalam and one I year student Solachi presented a paper on “India 2020-Abdulkalam’s Kanavugal.

St.Joseph’s college (Autonomous) Trichy conducted Two days “International Conference on Frontiers in Life Science”on 07.01.16 &08.01.16. Dr.H.Farithabegam presented a paper on “Biodiversity of Freshwater Phytoplankton Community and Physio-chemical parameters of pond, Erode(D.t), Tamilnadu,India.

Dr.H.Farithabegam attended the Orientation programme from 13.11.15 to 10.12.15 at BharathidasanUniversity,Tiruchirappalli.

Dr.H.Farithabegam and MsP.Aadhidhivya were attended the National conference on Recent Trends in Health care & Biotechnology opportunities and challenges in A.V.V.M Sri Pushpam college (Autonomous), Poondi, Thanjavur (D.t) on

22.01.16 and 23.01.16.Dr.H.Faritha begam presented a Review paper on Cancer Immunotheraphy.

Two staff members Dr.H.Farithabegamand Ms.P.Aadhidhivya with fifteen III year students were attended the one day National Seminar on “Role of Nuclear Energy for sustainable Future Development and Environmental safety”in Raja DoraisingamGovt Arts college,Sivagangai on 05.02.16.

All III year student and three staff members Dr.R.Ananthaselvi, Mrs.R.Bhuvaneswari and Ms.P.Aadhidhivya were attended the State level seminar on “Exploring Marine Resources” at Department of Oceanography, Thondi Campus, Thondi on 19.02.16.

Dr.V.Pradeepa and Dr.H.Farithabegam were attended the National Conferences on Advances in Biologoligal&Environmental sciences in Gandhigramam Rural University on 25.02.16.

Field Trip:



As a part of 5th semester SBS paper 1SBS5A4 Heritage &Tourism Promotion Skill all the III year students went on a trip to Rameshwaram. On the way we visited the Heritage building of Raja’s palace popularly called Ramalinga Vilasam was constructed 1690-1710. Interesting feature of the palace is that the style, architecture & planning were indigenously used in this region of Tamil Nadu. We visited our former president’s memorial place at peikkarupu. RamanathaSwamy temple and Abdul kalam’s House by admiring the achievements of his Museum house.

Extension Activity:

All the II year students were taken to Kothari for extension Activities on 26.09.2015.

Special meeting:



A special meeting was organized on 31.12.2015.B.K.Meena and B.K.Arunadevi , Brahma kumara Rajayoga center, Karaikudi were delivered a special talk on “Inspire your soul”.Their speech motivated the students have a strong will,positive thinking and they also gave a practical training of meditation Students were benifited.

Pond visit:

To analyse the oxygen content of the pond in manachai all III B.Sc (Zoo) students were accompanied by staff members along with one administrative staff.

Educational Tour:

As part of Academic activity , our students were taken Educational tour on 05.03.16 to 07.03.16.We visited Kanyakumari sea shore (Rockey shore), Sangumuga Beach (Sandy shore), Tiruvandram Zoological park & Museum, Cochin boating, Azhiyar Dam. Students collected some marine flora and fauna for specimen preservation. Students enjoyed &benefited the trip.

Pongal celebration:

Tamilzhar thirunal pongal Day was celebrated in a gread manner on 13.01.16.

Quiz Competition:

To create wide knowledge in a subject and current affairs quiz competition was conducted on 22.02.16.

Three day programme on creation of scientific awareness among rural farmers, self help group members and students was conducted from 23rd to 25th July 2014 sponsored by Tamilnadu State Council for science and Technology , Government of TamilNadu.



Two staff members(Dr.R.AnanthaSelvi and Dr.H.FarithaBegam) and students were attended National Workshop on Essentials of Bioinformatics at UmayalRamanathan College for Women, Karaikudi on 4th and 5th Aug 2014. Two staff members(Mrs.R. Bhuvaneswari and P.Sasikala) were attended world oceans day celebration on 8th Aug 2014 at oceanography and coastal area department of thondi campus, Alagappa University.

Three students and a staff member Ms. P.Sasikala were attended two day state level conference on studies on enzyme activity at Sri SaradhaNikethan College for Women, Amaravathipudur on 11.8.2014.

Two staff members(Dr.R.AnanthaSelvi and Mrs.R. Bhuvaneswari) and fifteen students were attended National Seminar on ‘Biovision 2014’. Recent trends and Future Perspectstives of Biosciences at Arumugam Pillai SeethaiAmmal College,

Thirupatthur on 5th and 6th September 2014.

Parents Teachers Association was conducted on 24.9.14.



The inaugural function of the Zoology association held on 25.9.2014. Dr.Swaminathan, Professor and Head, Dryland Agricultural Research Station Chettinad gave a lecture on ‘Know Thyself’.





Five students were participated Inter Collegiate and Women SHG member seminar cum workshop on "Hidden Secrets of Herbs-2014" (HSH - 2014) on 25th and 26th September 2014 at SreeSevuganAnnamalai College, Devakottai.

Six students and a staff member Mrs.D.Kannamani were attended and presented papers on 30th September 2014, at Idhaya College, Sarugani. Sathya Devi (III B.Sc Zoology) won best paper presentation award.
