Co-Curricular Activities



In our college together with Education we offer to the students various vocational courses under the banner co-curricular activities for the I and II year UG students of all disciplines. Courses offered are:

i) Computer Education
ii) Beautician Course
iii) Tailoring
iv) Spoken English
v) Handicrafts
vi) Keyboard
vii) Photography

The duration of each course is one month. Students attend classes everyday from 3.30 pm. By studying these courses students get many benefits. They are
i) By concentrating their attention in doing a particular work, they get happiness.
ii) After completing their Degree Course instead of seeking job they can start their own business and they provide jobs to many persons.

Keeping these in view, our college has been conducting these courses since academic year and running successfully till date.

Every year, an exhibition was organised and the students displayed the products prepared by them such as showcase pieces, handicrafts, Dolls, Ornaments and dress materials in the exhibition and the Chief Guest declared the exhibition open and visited the exhibition and appreciated the students who displayed their products.

The inaugural function Co-Curricular activities was held on 17.08.18 in college Auditorium. Dr. S. Ramuthai Principal presented presidential address and introduced the instructors of various courses. She had explained the value co-curricular courses and its vital role in providing the wholistic development of the students. The courses such as Beautician , computer education, handicrafts, keyboard, spoken English and tailoring were conducted from 17.08.2018 to 30.09.2018. These courses helped the students to create their own job portals for their bright future.

The instructions encouraged the students to become a successful woman. They inspired them to involve in the activity with great enthusiasm. The display of the handicraft items is the proof of the talent of our students. All the finished products elucidate the effort and interest of the students in their respective courses.

The inaugural function of co-curricular activities was conducted on 21.08.017 in college auditorium. Dr. K. Thirumamagal, Vice-principal presented presidential address and introduced in instructors of various courses. She insisted the importance of learning co-curricular courses along with their academic programmes. The courses such as

were conducted from 21.08.2017 to 25.09.2017.

The instructors Mrs. S. Meenakshi and Mrs.I.Stella Mary of Beautician course taught the importance of learning beautician course. They explained the different stages of bridal makeup with demonstration. The students learnt to do threading, waxing facial, different hair styles, bridal makeup, meganthi application etc. They provided health tips and also insisted the usuage of herbal products for application.

Computer Education course was conducted by Dr. AR.Chitra Juliet, Head, Department of Information technology, S.A. College, Pallathur. The theory and practical classes were conducted for usage of word document, excel, internet, power point. The fundamental knowledge gained from this course developed self confidence and help them to utilize their laptops for self-study purpose.

Handicrafts course was handled by Mrs. R. Ashalatha and Mrs. G. Pavithra in two sessions. The art of making useful materials such as baskets, bags, purses from waste polythene bags, idols from soap, table mat, floormat, from waste dress materials, flower vase, wall hangers, penstand, jewel making and glass painting etc. The handicrafts courses developed the skill to utilize the opportunities around us in right way.

The students those are interested to play key board opted the Keyboard course. The instructor Mr. M.Ramasamy taught the basics to operate the key board and brought the hidden skills within the students by doing regular practice and made them to do wonderful performance on valedictory function.

Photography was an important tool to bring the incidence of the past to live. Our students liked the photography course very much and the instructor Mr. S.Ashok taught the components of camera and how to operate the camera. Students developed the skill on focusing , frame fixation, photoshop to produce photographs of excellence.

The students were very much interested to their improve the English Knowledge and hence Spoken English was conducted with the help of Ms.H.Lydia and Ms.C.Amutha. The students were trained well in basic grammar and converse in English in the class room. They practiced well among themselves by conversing their day today activities and developed self confidence.

The art of Tailoring was taught in four batches with the help of the instructors Mrs.M.Shanthi and Mrs.K.Ponnalagu. Students learnt to stich chudithar , blouse and design work on sarees, blouse, different types of embroidery, stone work etc. They stitched more and more number of chudithar materials within the stipulated period. They developed self-confidence and capable to earn while learning and guiding the peer group members.

The first and second year under graduates students utilized the thirty hours beneficially for the developing the hidden skills and capable to reduce the family burden by earning while learning process. The staff members of various faculty rendered their valuable service of monitoring the students performance during course period.

In order to expose the hidden skill of each participants of the co-curricular courses “An Expo cum Valedictory function” was held on 06.10.2017. The Chief Guest lighting the kuthuvilakku. The college governing counsil member and elder son of our respected secretary Thiru. MuthuAdaiappaChettiyar and Thirumathi Vijayalakshmi Muthu Adaikkapa Chettiyar and Dr. S. Ramuthai, Principal, Dr. K. Thirumamagal Vice-Principal and Dr.G.Meenakshi, former Head, Department of Chemistry were also appreciated the wonderful performance of our students. The valedictory function was started with welcome address by Dr. A. Rukmani, and Dr. K. Thirumamagal, Vice-principal delivered presidential address. The Chief Guest Mrs. Rojavallikannu was honoures with shawl and momento and the instructors were honoured with shawl. Mrs. Rojavallikannu, was very much impressed and appreciated the students for their wonderful workdone in the co-curricular activities course. She motivated the young dynamic youth of our college to shine in all fields and distributed certificates. The students presentd their reflection on stage on behalf of each course. Dr. S. Ramuthai Principal and Dr. G. Meenakshi, Former Head, Department of Chemistry presented felicitation address. Students played National Anthem, Kallur vallthupaand devotional songs on key board. The function was concluded woth vote of thanks by Mrs. R. Bhuvaneshwari, Asst.Prof.of Zoology.

Every year, several courses are conducted for the I and II Under-graduate students, after regular class hours (between 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm) for a period of a month. For the Academic Year 2016-17, the following courses were organised:

The purpose of organising these courses is to make the students channelize their energies in a positive way and to make them spend their leisure time usefully. Further, learning any one of these course provides them with an opportunity for self-employment and also motivates them to become budding entrepreneurs in future.

The Inaugural function of the Co-curricular activities was held at 3.30 pm on addressed the gathering informally and explained them the importance of learning any one of these courses. The students were asked to group themselves on the basis of the course they had opted for. The students were then entrusted to the care of well-experienced and devoted instructors, who conducted the various courses for a period of a month. The enthusiasm of the helped them to learn a lot from their instructors.

The Co-Curricular activities programme was conducted from 20.08.2015 to 30.09.15 for all I & II year students. The courses were conducted after 3.30 pm. Various courses like Tailoring, Beautician, Handicraft , Photography, Spoken English, Keyboard, Computer Education, Karate and Jardhosi work conducted under the banner of Co-Curricular Activities. The valedictory function was held on 30.09.2015. An exhibition of various items learnt and made by the students during the courses were displayed in L2 Hall. The exhibition was declared open by the Chief Guest Rtn. R. M. Arunachalam.

Inaugural Function:

The inaugural function of the co-curricular activities was held at 3.30 pm on 01.09.14 . The co-ordinator Dr. T. Chitra, Assistant professor of Economics addressed the students informally and explained to the students the importance of learning any one of these courses.

Valedictory Function:

The valedictory function of the co-curricular activities was held on 30.09.14. An exhibition of various items realist by the I and II year students during the course were displayed in L2 Hall. The exhibition was declared open by SMT Meenakshi Sethu, Founder – Correspondent, Golden Gates School, Salem, making an inspiring speech.

Recognising the role of young minds in shaping the environmental agenda, “Earn while you learn” programme was Inaugurated on 3.9.2013.

Dr. S. Ramuthai, Principal in her inaugural address stressed the need for undertaking extra curricular courses to lead a successful and meaningful life along with their curriculum. All the first and second year students have

undergone a month long training programme from 3.9.2013 to 5.10.2013. The following courses were conducted

v) Handicrafts
vi) Keyboard
vii) Photography

Students are trained to stich both modern and traditional blouses, chudidhars, innerwears and babywears. Embroidery, mirror work, Jarahocy, kutch work are the other items taught to the students. Students showed great interest to study the beautician course. They had practical sessions on Bleaching, facial, eyebrow threading, hair colouring, bridal makeup, mehanthi, pedicure, manicure, hairdo etc.

Spoken English course trained the students in basic grammar, attending interviews, conducting seminars and discussions etc. Handicrafts course provided an opportunity to know about pot painting, dolls and deddy bears making, wall bangers and different types of articles using chart paper.

Students almost become professional photographers through photography course. Technical sessions on speed adjustment, sunlight adjustment, zoom clear mode, wide angle, colour mode were conducted for them. In order to cope up with the recent developments in technology the students were given computer education which served as a boon to them. Eminent personalities are appointed and sincere efforts of the students, teachers and trainers this programme went on successfully for a month. An expo cum valedictory function was arranged on 8.10.2013. The Chief Guest Mr. I. Kamaludeen B.E., B.GL, M.Tech; workshop instructor, Annamalai polytechnic, Chettinad in his address stressed the importance of women education. Women entrepreneurs will definitely lift the society to greater heights he added.

Certainly this programme has opened a lot of opportunities to the girl students from the rural background, and this will pave way for them to go forward. This course has made learners self-sufficient and it will raise their standard of living too. Naturally our students will be able to face their lives with great self-confidence and practical knowledge. To sum up this programme on the whole will solve the problem of unemployment prevalent today.
